LAS VEGAS — What happens in Vegas always stays in Vegas, especially when members of the Loyal Order of the Moose are involved.
Shortly after the Women of the Moose in Greenfield celebrated 100 years, Moose members celebrated awards for outstanding leadership and community service last week at the 131st International Moose Convention in Las Vegas, Nev. The Greenfield Lodge was recognized as a Premier Lodge two years in a row for the very first time in its history, according to a Greenfield Lodge press release.
In addition, Greenfield Lodge Administrator Rick Knox of Turners Falls and Governor Isaac Mass of Greenfield both received Lodge Leadership Awards.
Knox said he doesn’t like to “toot his own horn.”
“I don’t consider this an award, it’s just what I do,” Knox said. “A lot of people say the Moose Lodge is Greenfield’s best-kept secret because no one knows what we do.”
Another member, Douglas Clapp of Greenfield, was awarded the Fellowship Degree of Honor, which is the second-highest award a Moose member can receive.
“A chosen member is elevated by the fellowship,” Knox said. “Doug has done a lot here and at other lodges. This has been years in the making and he’s finally been recognized.”
The Greenfield Lodge also received a Gold Award recognizing its community service, and was ranked third of all lodges in the United States and Canada for community service.
Knox said it was nice to be recognized “for doing the best we can.”
“We do a lot of work, we try and try,” he said.
