Cody Booska continued his reign as the top player at the Country Club of Greenfield over the weekend.
Booska captured another CCG Club Championship, compiling a three-round total of 211 to win the annual event by nine strokes. Booska shot rounds of 65 and 69 on Saturday, before closing with a 77 on Sunday to edge runners-up Jake Willis (72-74-74—220) and Nate Burdick (73-72-75—220) for the club championship.
Jason Kelton finished fourth, posting rounds of 70-74-77 for a 221, while Dave Kennedy and Chris Bourbeau tied for fifth, three shots behind Kelton at 224. Rounding out the top 10 finishers were Mike Johnson (seventh, 225), Will Conant (eighth, 230), Tom Herzig (ninth, 231) and KC Finley (10th, 233).
Pat Grogan was the President’s Cup winner with a two-round total of 152, followed by John Varner (154) and Terry Blanchard (157). Vice President’s Cup (net) was won by Forbes Byron (133), followed by Barry Dow (138).
On the women’s side, Liz Dolby fired rounds of 82 and 89 for a total of 171 to claim the club championship.
Phyllis Canon (91-85) and Teresa Varner (89-87) tied for second place, five shots back with totals of 176.
In women’s net action, Ryan Blanchard was first overall (133), followed by Elaine Goodhind (138) and Kathy Nicoll (144).
Hole-in-one
Turners Falls’ Clint McCloud recorded his first-career hole-in-one over the weekend.
McCloud aced the par 3, 5th hole at the Country Club of Greenfield. He used a 4-hybrid from 192 yards to accomplish the feat, which was witnessed by Justin McCloud and Mike Hall.
Elks League
After 10 weeks of the Greenfield Elks League, two teams sit tied atop the standings at CCG.
The team of Greg Call and Bob Zaikowski are tied with Bob Ferris and Vinnie Melendez as both squads have amassed 54 points.
Tied for third place are the teams of Dave McDonald/Keith Schempp and Mike Duclos/Sharon Rawson with 53½ points each.
GTA Meet & Greet Mixer
The Greenfield Tennis Association (GTA) is holding a free, “meet & greet” style doubles tennis outing on July 13 at the Beacon Field courts beginning at 9 a.m.
The purpose is to have fun and meet and play tennis with friends and players, old and new, on Greenfield’s treasured red clay courts. Men, women, young and old are all welcome to play. Montague Mug Race
Registration is underway for the 39th annual Montague Mug Race, set for Aug. 17 at the Village Common.
The 5.5-mile race blasts off at 8:30 a.m. Pewter Mugs are awarded to top male/female finishers and coffee mugs to top finishers of each division. T-shirts are given to the first 90 runners.
Now in its 15th year, the Mini Mug Race will kick off at 8:35. This 2-mile course is a great scenic route around the Old South Cemetery. Both races will finish at the ball field. All runners are entered into drawing for local prizes. The course is well marked with plenty of water stops and features a few challenging hills with a run along the Connecticut River.
