PETERSHAM — While many New England communities have long since abandoned the tradition of holding a parade on the Fourth of July, the Hill Top town — proudly — is not among them. People from around the region gathered on the Petersham Common Thursday to listen to music, munch a hot dog or two, and watch as marchers celebrated the 243rd birthday of our nation.

Spectators of all ages lined the streets as veterans, local organizations, vintage automobiles, fire apparatus, riders on horseback and others traversed the circuitous parade route. Blue skies and warm temperatures made the morning’s festivities all that more enjoyable.
