ORANGE — Antique engines and tractors will be on display and paraded around at this year’s Yankee Engine-uity Show.

The 43rd annual event, hosted by the Central Massachusetts Steam Gas & Machinery Association, will be held Saturday and Sunday. The event opens both days at 8 a.m., with exhibits on display throughout the day, at the Orange Municipal Airport, 80 Airport St.

This year’s event features antique engines and tractors, cars and trucks, steam engines and old machinery, a live steam table, tractor parade, a tractor pull for children, raffles, blacksmithing and other demonstrations, and live music from The Boot Hill Express band. Display highlights include a large 1898 C.H. Brown Company steam engine built in Fitchburg and a 15-gauge Cagney Steam Train.

The Cagney Steam Train is, according to organizer Grover Ballou, bound to be one of this year’s star attractions. The Cagney Brothers Miniature Railroad Company built around 1,300 miniature, rideable steam-powered trains in the late 1800s and early 1900s that were used in amusement parks, zoos and fairs across the country.

Some of the Cagney trains were crude replicas of larger trains, including the one on display this weekend, which is derivative of the New York Central No. 999 steam locomotive built in 1893. The Cagney train this weekend was built in 1904 and is being restored by Central Massachusetts Steam Gas & Machinery Association.

“It’s not up and running yet, but it will be cool to see,” Ballou said.

He added that the “must see” features of Yankee Engine-uity are the parade and the children’s tractor pull.

“We have all of the little kids ride the little tractors and see what they pull,” Ballou said. “And everyone gets a prize.”

A flea market, featuring nearly 100 vendors, will be open throughout the event, and a variety of food concessions are available.

Yankee Engine-uity is open to the public with a $3-per-carload entry fee. The Orange Airport is also welcoming visitors who wish to fly in with no landing fees.
