I write in response to Wendy Sibbison’s letter regarding the John Zon Community Center. I am in complete agreement with her view of it being a restrictive and unwelcoming place. From the moment of entry to the front desk and beyond, there are rules and pre-registrations and lack of accessibility to its Director Hope Zachary, whom I was told could only be seen by appointment. Never mind no welcoming smile. No one I’ve ever talked to about this new tax-paid facility disagrees with me.
There are bigger issues here, like its hours, purpose, community use, even name change, but let’s start with how you feel walking through the door of this beautiful, nearly empty building. I too am a senior and truly disappointed in the promise of this center.
