GREENFIELD — Eversource recently honored nine Greenfield-area students as finalists at the sixth annual Eversource Challenge student contest ceremony, held at Springfield’s Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
From posters to short stories, persuasive writing to video production, the Eversource Challenge invites Massachusetts students in kindergarten through twelfth grade to showcase ways to save energy while protecting the planet, according to a press release.
The Newton School celebrated seven challenge winners. Keneysha Rosario Garcia, Bryan Dominguez Romero, Yara Al Behaili and Gonzalo Vasquez Rosa all placed in the kindergarten to second-grade category for creating posters about saving energy. Keneysha won third place in the kindergarten category. In the first- and second-grade category, Bryan received first place, Yara won second place and Gonzalo won third place.
Third-grade category finalists Isabel Thompson and Madisyn Pelletier placed second and third, respectively, for writing limericks about the different ways you can save energy.
Samuel Falceanu created a billboard promoting energy conservation in his community and won second place in the fourth-grade category.
Greenfield Middle School student Meghan Collins won first place in the fifth-grade category for creating an energy-saving super hero character.
Kaitlyn Collins, a student at Greenfield High School, took home second place in the eighth-grade category for creating a public-service announcement about the importance of energy conservation.
