CONWAY — Laurie Lucier will replace Virginia “Ginny” Knowlton as the town clerk following the results of the annual town election on Thursday.

Lucier ran against Sheila Harrington in this year’s lone contested race. Lucier received 162 votes to Harrington’s 129.

Knowlton has had her job since 1979 and is retiring this year. Knowlton said Lucier will be sworn into office on May 23.

Both candidates said their love for their adopted home and desire to help people were their primary reasons for running for public office.

Knowlton said there were 291 people who voted in this year’s election, which is about 20 percent of Conway’s population.

Write-in candidate Jennifer Mullins won a two-year position on the Planning Board with 37 votes.

There is also a vacant position on the Conway School Committee, which will be an appointed position since there was no one on the ballot and not enough write-in candidates, Knowlton said.

There are two new members of the Board of Health. Mathilde Hunting was elected to a one-year position and Veronique Blanchard was elected to a two-year position. Knowlton said all the seats on the board are now filled.
