HAWLEY — Of the town’s 251 registered voters, 46 cast a ballot in Monday’s annual municipal election, sending five candidates to office.
Five candidates secured seven town positions.
Hussain Hamdan assumed three seats – including one he didn’t sign up for. He won a two-year Selectboard seat with 42 votes and a Hawlemont School Committee spot with 43 votes, plus a Mohawk Trail Regional School District seat with eight write-in votes. Hamdan has accepted the Mohawk position, according to Town Clerk Pamela Shrimpton.
Edward Brady won a three-year town assessor term with 44 votes.
Carla Clark won a one year town auditor seat with 10 write-in votes and has accepted the position, Shrimpton said.
Suzanne Crawford won a three-year seat as a non-parent member of the Hawlemont Regional School District Committee with 43 votes.
Lark Thwing won a one-year town moderator term with 41 votes.
A special election will be held next month for two positions: the Selectboard/Board of Health seat, and the Hawlemont Regional School District Committee seat. These positions were held by Sally Rich, who recently died while in office. The election is scheduled June 17, from 11:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Town Office.
