Instead of erasing those tokens, the students should be taught the history of that era of history when those injustices happened. It should also be taught how the Native Americans treated the Pioneers. For instance, the Deerfield attack, and the French and Indian War, the attack on the farmers, etc.
The Native Americans were very skilled warriors and that is what the Mascot illustration depicts. It is also stimulating to the School’s sport teams.
North of Charlemont is a statue of a Native American in the center of a fountain. Around the sides of the fountain are metal plates with the names of all of the Native American tribes which were located in the area.
In a Democracy, the majority opinion should be followed. Let common sense prevail.
