Spring Gymnastics: The May/June session of youth gymnastics lessons are starting.  There are parent/child classes for 6-36 month olds, preschool classes (without parent) for 2.9-5 year olds, beginner and intermediate classes for 5-12 year olds, super hero training for 4-6 year olds, and Parkour for 7-10 year olds. Youth Swim Lessons: Registration in progress for the last session of youth swim lessons before summer. Classes run until June 15. There are Water Discovery classes for ages 6 months to 5 years with parents/grandparents, and child only lessons for 3-12 year olds. All children should have at least intermediate swim skills so they can be safer and enjoy aquatic activities their entire lives.  See page 15 of the Y Brochure at ymcaingreenfield.org.  Financial aid is available to cover up to 70% of all class fees.

Camp Sign-up Week: April 29-May 3 the Y is offering 10% off all full price camp registrations.  This is a great week for parents to plan their children’s summer with either a few weeks of fun or up to nine weeks of childcare. For boys and girls ages 4-14, the Y offers full and half day indoor sports camps and gymnastics camps, as well as the popular outdoor Camp Apex.  See camp info at ymcaingreenfield.org or call 773-3646 Ext. 0.

Summer Childcare: The Y offers nine weeks of three summer camps for boys and girls ages 4-14.  Parents can mix and match the three camps (sports, gymnastics, and Apex) to create a unique summer for their children.  The Y also offers early care from 6 to 9 a.m. and late care from 4 to 6 p.m. Early care has free breakfast and all campers get a free lunch provided by the Greenfield Public Schools summer lunch program.  See camp info at ymcaingreenfield.org or call 773-3646 Ext. 0.

Prescribe the Y Program: May is a good month for people to ask their primary care provider for a free referral to the Y’s Prescribe the Y program (RxY).  At the referral appointment, a Y fitness specialist goes over each person’s wellness goals and then recommends the proper Y program to start with. RxY is a 12-week starter wellness program with lots of Y staff support to help each patient start to feel the benefits of regular exercise.  RxY is only $139 and financial aid is available.  Contact Jayne Trosin at 773-3646 Ext. 448 for more information.

Take Control: This is a new 16-week lifestyle change program at the YMCA in Greenfield.  This weekly support group will show participants how to make basic behavioral and lifestyle changes that can contribute to weight loss, healthy living, and may help pre-diabetics from become a Type II diabetic.  The program consists of weekly weigh-ins, and food tracking following the CDC recognized Diabetes Prevention Program.  Group meets on Mondays at 5 p.m. beginning May 6.  The fee for the 16-week program is $99.
