‘’’: This would be a disastrous decision’
My wife and I were at wits end and frankly quite scared when a family member had a mental health crisis. Thank God that Eastspoke was there for us. If you don’t know, Eastspoke is the Mental Health Unit of Baystate Franklin hospital.
It was there for us 30 years ago and has been helping desperate people, patients and their families, for all these many years. There are plans afoot by Baystate to close Eastspoke plus inpatient Mental Health Units in Westfield and Palmer! Their functions would be moved to Holyoke.
In our opinion this would be a disastrous decision, weakening an already tattered safety net. Losing these local mental health units would put an additional burden on patients, their families and their friends. How would a patient get to the Holyoke facility? And what about the difficulties presented to family and friends getting to Holyoke? Hopefully such plans will be discarded for more intelligent and less harmful options.
