Twelve Connecticut Valley Junior Grange members learned a lot about combat during World War II during their Veteran Program at the group’s April 8 meeting at Guiding Star Grange in Greenfield. The members listened to a talk by a 100-year-old veteran, Darby Hine, about his experience as a World War II paratrooper and asked him questions, including what was the most dangerous thing he did and what he liked the best about serving in World War II. Hine told them that jumping out of a plane with a 40-pound machine gun into the Pacific Ocean was very dangerous, but it was an honor to serve his country. The best thing was the life-long buddies he made in the service. The Junior Grange meets every second Monday, 5 p.m. at Guiding Star Grange. Credit: CONTRIBUTED PHOTO
