Comfortable . . . that’s nice. A Recorder editorial (April 15) “Caps and Gowns” mentions that Turners Falls High School students are uncomfortable with the males wearing blue and the females wearing white caps and gowns at their graduation exercises. They wanted “gender neutral” colors. The choice — with approval from those involved with the conundrum — was blue gowns with white stoles for all. The closing sentence in the editorial states; “It’s all about making students comfortable as they mark an important milestone in their young lives.” I sure am glad the students are comfortable with the outcome. As they enter the “real world” they’re about to learn how “uncomforting” that world can be; with few or none there to hold their hand.
