1:57 p.m. – Caller on Peabody Lane reports a suspicious man approached a neighbor’s house and may have attempted to gain entry. Neighbor not home at this time. Suspect described as white male with shaggy hair and wearing blue windbreakers. Police located man by the tennis courts. Man says he works nearby and went for a walk on his lunch break. He says he needed to urinate and went where he thought no one would see him. He acknowledged it was a bad decision and apologized.
5:44 a.m. – Caller on Franklin Street reports a laptop was stolen.
6:56 p.m. – Walk-in reports she was walking on Miller Falls Road at about 7:30 p.m. and had just crossed the street when a pit bull started charging at her. She backed up and lost her footing and fell backward, slamming her head onto the concrete. Did not lose consciousness but has a large “egg” on her head. She said the dog owner came out and called the dog away. The dog did not attack but startled her enough to fall. Turners Falls Fire Department, in the Montague Police Safety Complex, evaluated woman’s head injury in the lobby. Follow-ups expected.
5:42 p.m. – Report of a hypodermic needle at the intersection of 12 Mountain Road and 50 Spring Terrace. Two needles secured for disposal.
5:59 p.m. – Needle found in front yard on Fourth Street. Needle disposed of.
8:12 a.m. – Walk-in reports bright-green Kawasaki ATV stolen off his back porch between 12:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.
11:21 a.m. – Caller reports a fight in the Wilson’s Department Store parking lot. Dispersed upon officer’s arrival. Intoxicated man told police someone had punched him in the chest and the intoxicated man made threats he was going to “beat” the person.
2:56 p.m. – Report of accident, with no injuries, between Gray 2005 Toyota Camry and Gray 2012 Honda Accord at intersection of 95 Wildwood Ave. and 14 French King Highway.
5:23 p.m. – Report of a hit-and-run near Sandri Stop Smart Sunoco on Federal Street.
7:21 p.m. – Multiple calls of downed wires on fire at 187 Silver St. Fire Department and Police Department en route. Department of Public Works contacted for “Road Closed” signs. Eversource contacted. Officers assisted with traffic.
8:26 p.m. – Report of a tree down, blocking the roadway on High Street, near Greenfield Dental Associates. DPW responding with tree crew and “Road Closed” signs.
9:18 p.m. – Report of a car striking a tree at Weldon House on High Street. Koch’s Automotive able to remove vehicle. It appears car sustained little to no damage.
1:23 p.m. – Report of a man sitting nude in his yard on X Street in Turners Falls. Officers spoke with the man, who agreed to put on shorts to continue sunbathing. Officers will make contact with reporting party.
6:14 p.m. — Kimberley Irene Jurkowski, 29, of Northfield, and Julie A. Engstrom, 36, of Greenfield, were both arrested after a traffic stop at 106 Conway St. Jurkowski was arrested on a warrant, and Engstrom was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, a motor vehicle lights violation and a marked lanes violation.
