Lenten Quiet Day this morning

GREENFIELD — On Saturday morning, April 6, all are welcome to come to Second Congregational Church on the Common in Greenfield from 10 a.m. to noon for a time of personal spiritual practices in preparation for Holy Week. Speaker Dan Tinen on ‘Cast Into the Fire?’

BERNARDSTON — On Sunday, April 7, speaker Dan Tinen will speak on the topic, “Cast Into the Fire?” at the Bernardston Unitarian Meetinghouse. Tinen will give us a refresher course in one of the major roots of our faith. Coffee at 11, program at 11:30 a.m.

Goldspinner on ‘What it means to be a human being’

GREENFIELD — Storyteller and writer Jay Goldspinner is the speaker this week at All Souls UU. Her topic is “What it means to be a human being,” referencing Swedish writer Henning Mankell who came face-to-face with death at age 66. This Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at 399 Main St. Religious education for the children and friendship lunch, too. All are welcome.

Annual Lenten discussion series concludes Tuesday in Hatfield

HATFIELD — The 22nd annual Lenten Discussion Series, “Faith Will Light the Way,” will present its fifth and final session on Tuesday, April 9, at the Hatfield Congregational Church at 7 p.m. The Rev. Allen M. Comstock will give a sermon titled, “The People is the Prophet.” Refreshments will be served after the gathering. The church is at 41 Main St.

‘Interfaith Eating with our Neighbors:’ Thursday

TURNERS FALLS — All are invited to fellowship with our larger community with food and cultural reflections from various countries on Thursday, April 11, at Our Lady of Peace, 90 7th St.

Sponsored by the Interfaith Council of Franklin County, there will be a shared meal beginning at 5:30 p.m. and program at 6:30. All are welcome. The April gathering will feature tamales made by immigrants from Central America, pierogis from a woman in sanctuary from Russia, dumplings and other items from our Tibetan neighbors, as well as babaganush, falafel and grape leaves from a friend from Egypt. Donations are welcome but all are welcome to take part. The gathering will also include reflections on our connections to these cultures as well as updates from groups working on immigrant rights in the state and region.

Immigration film screening set for April 14 at Temple Israel

GREENFIELD — Temple Israel’s Refugee Support Project will screen the film “Harvest of Empire” on Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m. This award-winning documentary on immigration explores the history of U.S. intervention in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. Liz Kelner will lead a post-film discussion. This event is not appropriate for children. No admission fee, but donations are welcome for legal assistance for refugees and asylum seekers. Bishop Rozanski to celebrate Divine Mercy service on April 28

GREENFIELD — The Franklin County Deanery will sponsor a Divine Mercy Celebration at Blessed Sacrament Church, 221 Federal St., on Sunday, April 28. The service will include Benediction, Chaplet of Divine Mercy and Novena Prayer. Bishop Mitchell Rozanski will be the Celebrant and will preach. Confessions will be available from 1:45 to 3 p.m. The celebration will begin at 3 p.m.
