GREENFIELD — Lefty’s Brewing Co. will close April 14 after nearly a decade, owners Bill and Melissa Goldfarb announced Friday, citing family health and moving onto a new chapter in their lives.
The Goldfarbs said they enjoyed success through the years, from starting in a small space in Bernardston in 2010 to moving to Greenfield the next year and becoming one of the bustling breweries in a region booming with them.
“We are so sorry to say good-bye, but we must,” the Goldfarbs wrote in a release. “We do hope you respect our privacy at this time but have no worries. We are very much looking forward to what’s to come for our family.”
The Goldfarbs said Melissa has been experiencing health issues, which “encouraged our decision to take life by the bullhorns and live to the fullest.”
“Life is short, and there are many things to achieve,” their release said. “Lefty’s Brewing was incredibly successful, always growing and very much supported by the community, and we feel so incredibly proud of that status and are beyond happy to leave in on that positive note.”
The Goldfarbs, who could not be reached for comment, cited their fond memories of receiving notes of appreciation from community members, working with local businesses and participating in brewery festivals.
“Thank you for being part of this dream of Lefty’s Brewing that came to fruition and put an awesome stamp on the world for many years, and an even bigger stamp on our hearts,” they said.
The brewery will be selling off its inventory in the coming weeks.
Lefty’s taproom, which opened last year on Wells Street, will remain open until April 14 but will no longer hold events or game nights.
