After just a few months in office, Sen. Jo Comerford, D-Northampton, has created a new website she hopes will provide greater access to her for her constituents.
“Every day, my team and I work to bring what’s happening in the Massachusetts Senate back home to western Massachusetts, because democracy and our government demand that constituents are thoroughly informed, feel powerful and engage on issues about which they care deeply,” Comerford said. “This website is a virtual embodiment of initiatives we’ve already launched this year, such as The People’s Office Hours, March Academy teach-ins and the monthly ‘Dear Jo’ column in The Daily Hampshire Gazette — all geared toward breaking down barriers and strengthening the connection between constituents in the Hampshire, Franklin, Worcester district and the State House.”
Comerford said the website, launched March 18 and created by Cider House Media, will also provide “robust constituent services” — a virtual one-stop shop for them. She said she wants government transparency, accountability and access for her constituents.
She said they will be able to see her priorities, as well as legislation she is working on or has filed. She said it will lay out the many ways the Senate can and should support constituents, whether they are individuals, nonprofits, local businesses or towns and cities.
Comerford lists some of her priorities on the website, including education, health care, the environment, elders, farms and farmers, food security, civil and human rights, criminal justice reform, opioids, state revenue, disability rights and more.
Samantha Hopper, Comerford’s district aide, said the website will be updated regularly with blog posts, videos and and anything else the senator wants her constituents to know or see. She said Comerford’s March Academy, a seven-part webinar series, each focused on specific issues, will be posted there.
