SUNDERLAND – The body recovered from Mount Toby on Sunday has been identified by the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office as Mark Klempner, 63, of Greenfield.

No further information was available Wednesday afternoon.

Klempner’s body was discovered on Mount Toby around 12:45 p.m. on Sunday. This led to an hours-long recovery involving multiple agencies and two drones from Greenfield. Klempner was confirmed dead after an investigation by the Sunderland Police and Fire departments and South County EMS paramedics.

The body, found in a wedge-like area near a cliff face on the west side of Mount Toby, was discovered around 12:45 p.m. by two hikers, who called 911.

The drones were used to ensure rescuers’ safety in the steep icy terrain. Trail entrances were narrow, requiring first responders to use ATVs, snowmobiles and utility vehicles to get themselves and their equipment to the site.
