This is a reply to a letter by Howard Grant of Greenfield.
Why did you wait until the end of your letter of Feb. 20 to quote a slogan from a Louisiana grocery store about Heaven and Hell as rationale for a wall to be built on the “southern border.” I’m assuming that you don’t mean between Greenfield and Deerfield.
I live in Greenfield, in an apartment within walking distance to the center of town. I drive a nearly 15-year-old car, and I rarely lock the doors to either. And even though I work, pay my bills and my taxes, and have been an active church member for close to 20 years, I may still not be “the same kind of people (you) would want in (your) house.”
If you truly and sincerely believe that building “a big beautiful wall” will be a reasonable and effective answer to our nation’s troubles, why don’t you and your buds just high-tail it down there and spend your own precious time and money on it, and leave those of us who do not agree with your point of view in peace?!
