I write today to clarify a statement in the third paragraph of an Opinion piece on Saturday, Feb. 2. In 2014 the Deerfield Historical Commission created an Archaeological Accountability Policy that was quickly modified and adopted by the towns of Gill and Northfield. The Massachusetts Historical Commission did not write these archaeological policies, but reviews, accepts, and implements them once individual towns submit them for review.
