Do you really need a new library?

I try to stay out of Greenfield as much as possible and only come into town when it’s absolutely necessary.

While in Greenfield the other day, driving along Main Street, I couldn’t help but notice a lot of empty store fronts. Some of you think having a new library will bring people into town? Why don’t you put your energies into filling the store ronts and bringing decent paying jobs into town. That’s what brings in people.

When your children finish school there’s nothing in Greenfield to keep them there. You’re just another bedroom community. I don’t think the library in Shelburne, Brattleboro, Northampton or Amherst draws the crowds.

We’ve found it’s cheaper to shop out of town. Groceries, at Walmart or Marketbasket. Keene or Brattleboro for clothes. Greenfield seems to be digging itself deeper and deeper into a hole. I don’t think you have your priorities in order.
