NORTHFIELD — Julia Blyth will not seek re-election when her term on the Selectboard ends this spring, potentially drawing extra interest in this year’s annual town election.
Blyth’s seat is one of 16 town government positions that are up for election this year. Nominations will be taken at a caucus on March 5 at 6:30 at the Northfield Town Hall.
Blyth was on the Selectboard for one three-year term, and still serves on several other committees, including Northfield’s Open Space Committee and the inter-town HEART Committee (Honest Education and Retaining Trust).
No one has publicly expressed interest in running for Blyth’s seat, yet.
The other 15 positions are for an assessor; two Health Board members; two library trustees; one Planning Board member; two recreation commissioners, one sewer commissioner; four constables; two veterans memorials trustees.
All terms are for three years, except the Planning Board term, which is five years.
The caucus requires 25 members for a quorum. Up to two candidates may be nominated for a position. If more than two are nominated, the top two will be chosen by a vote.
Candidates may also be nominated by petition. A candidate must gather at least 20 signatures from registered Northfield voters. Nomination papers are availble at the Town Clerk’s Office, and are due by March 8 at 5 p.m.
