If you’ve ever wanted to learn ukulele basics, or how to read music, there’s a class coming up at the Greenfield Public Library for you.

Greenfield resident Dusti Dufresne is offering a beginners’ six-week ukulele class. The free classes are for adults only.

Beginning on Feb. 23, the hour-long classes will start with reading music and strumming, Dufresne said. She asks that people arrive at the library for 9:30 a.m. so the class can begin at 9:45 a.m. Classes continue until 10:45 a.m.

Dufresne is self-taught, and said the ukulele is her favorite instrument. She added that she wanted to start a class to connect people with a common interest.

“I did this with another group and we developed a close connection,” she said. “We’ve gone to see shows together. There’s a real sense of camaraderie.”

No experience is necessary. There is a cap of 10 people for the class, and participants are asked to bring a ukulele. There will be a few ukuleles available, if needed.

Dufresne said students should purchase a method book titled “Hal Leonard Ukulele Method Book 1.” It can be ordered online from Amazon or from West Music.
