Greenfield High School and Athol High School each went 2-1 against Valley North League opponents on Friday to finish tied atop the final standings during the PVIAC Indoor Track & Field Meet 7 at Smith College in Northampton.

Both teams finished 5-1 in the league to tie with Hampshire Regional High School atop the league. Greenfield edged Athol, 48-47, but Hampshire beat the Green Wave 50-45. Athol topped Hampshire 56-39 as all three teams suffered just the one loss in the league. 

Athol finished 3-1 on the day with wins over Mohawk (71-22) and Pioneer (52-43) as well. Dennis St. Jean had a big day for Athol as he won the 1,000 meter run in 2 minutes, 53.45 seconds. St. Jean also placed third in the mile (4:57.38). Mason Barrieau also had a big day, placing second overall in both the 300 (37.53) and the 55 hurdles (8.74). Barrieau also took 10th in the long jump at 18-8¼. Anthony Marcucci finished fourth in the mile (5:04.89) and fifth in the 1,000 (3:02.69) for Athol, while Colby Soltysik was fifth in the 600 (1:41.14) and seventh in the high jump (5-1).

Greenfield went 2-1 on the day with a win over Pioneer (65.66-29.33). Crescens Iavorschi had a huge day for the Green Wave with a second-place overall in both the 55 (6.85) and the long jump (19-10½), and a third-place time of 38.12 in the 300. Liviu Mihailicenco was fifth in the high jump (5-3) and sixth in the 55 hurdles (9.58), while Theodor Popusoi had a pair of top 10 finishes overall with an eighth in the 55 hurdles (9.87) and a ninth in the high jump (5-1). Aaron Do was third in the 600 (1:39.04), Dylan Badillo was fifth in the 2-mile (12:04.43), and Izaak Vigil-Sagan was seventh in the shot put (33-6½). Israel Gallardo was ninth in the high jump (5-1), and Miles Ferreira was 10th in the 300 (40.54).

Pioneer went 2-2 overall with wins over Ludlow (45-42) and Sci-Tech (80-6), but lost to Greenfield and Athol. Scott McDonough continued his big winter season with a win in the long jump at 20-8½. He also finished seventh in the 55 (6.96). Gavin Curtis was fourth in the 600 (1:39.71) for the Panthers, and Jack Loud was sixth in the 2-mile (12:05.89). Pioneer also had three ninth-place finishes overall on the day as Manny Little was ninth in the 2-mile (12:10.24), Jake Wallace was ninth in the high jump (5-1), and Jacob Comiskey was ninth in the shot put (33-3).

Mahar went 1-0 on the day with a 62-10 win over Sci-Tech. Liam O’Donnell was second overall in the 2-mile (11:09.50), while teammate Camdyn Johnson was seventh in 12:06.34. O’Donnell was also ninth in the 1,000 in 3:08.61.

Mohawk added a 47-22 loss to Ludlow on the day. Dennis Simmons was sixth in the mile in 5:08.40, while Cullen Brown was seventh in the 300 (39.49), and teammate London Summers was ninth in the event at 40.08.

On the girls’ side, Greenfield wound up second in the Valley South League as it went 2-1 on the day and finished the league 5-1 overall. Greenfield beat Athol (59½-35½) and Pioneer (73½-21½), but lost to Hampshire 50-45. Hampshire won the league crown with an undefeated league finish.

Victoria Marin had another big day for the Green Wave as she won the long jump (16-1¾) and took fourth in the 55 hurdles (9.88), fourth in the high jump (4-9), and sixth in the 55 (8.08). Louisa Calame was seventh in the 2-mile (12:51.24) for the Wave, and ninth in the mile (6:04.85). Kacia Kinsmith added a sixth-place finish in the high jump (4-7).

Mohawk wound up tying for second in the Valley North League at 4-2 after a 2-0 performance on Friday with wins over Athol (51-42) and Ludlow (53-42). Meghan Davis was second in the 2-mile (11:15.80), third in the mile (5:27.50), and sixth in the 600 (1:54.62). Erica Szewczyk was sixth in the mile (5:54.22), and 10th in the 1,000 (3:35.10). Sierra Upton was fifth in the 2-mile (12:49.30), and Lily Wickland-Shearer was eighth in the 55 hurdles (10.39).

Athol went 1-3 on the day with losses Hampshire (68-22), Greenfield and Mohawk, and a win over Pioneer (52-27). Grace Dufour led Athol with a second-place in the 300 (45.73) and a 10th in the 55 (8.13). Rashell Dalmau-Gonzalez was 10th in the shot put at 25-10.

Pioneer went 1-3 as it fell to Ludlow (63-28), Athol and Greenfield, with a win over Sci-Tech (54-18). Skylar Cohen was 12th in the 300 (49.23) for the Panthers, and Laila Heilman was 12th in the mile (6:28.87).

Mahar beat Sci-Tech 85-6. Kamryn Reilly paced Mahar with a win in the high jump (4-9). She also finished third in the long jump (15-3¾) and fourth in the 55 (7.82). Anna Wetherbee was fifth in the 300 (47.58) and eighth in the long jump (14-8½). Caroline Chase was third in the 600 (1:52.78), Chloe Taddeo was third in the shot put (29-3), Carra Fitzgerald was fifth in the mile (5:51.67), and Jordyn Berry was 10th in the high jump (4-5).
