Darius Ervin hit Max Lorca-Lloyd on an alley-op with 25 seconds left as NMH beat Cushing, 82-80, in a boys basketball game, Wednesday in Gill.
Greg Dolan finished with 18 points in the win, and Chris Ledlum had 16 points and seven rebounds. Lorca-Lloyd added 14 points and 10 rebounds for NMH (21-4), and Cam Krystkowiak had 13 points.
Mt. Institute Ski League
Northfield Mount Hermon School had six girls in the top 10 overall as the Hoggers edged Deerfield Academy for the top spot during race No. 4 of the Mt. Institute Ski League Wednesday at Berkshire East in Charlemont.
Deerfield had the top two finishers on the day as Kikka Guidici won the event with a combined time of 80.60 seconds in her two runs on the giant slalom, including the top time of the day in 39.50. Teammate Valeri Hetherington came in second overall with a combined time of 81.23 seconds. NMH placed the next two skiers with Ashley LaCross placing third in 81.32 seconds, including the second-quickest run of the day in 40.18 seconds. Izzy Campbell was fourth for NMH in 84.67 seconds.
Deerfield’s Chloe Monty (86.47) and Madeline Carey (86.74) finished fifth and sixth overall, but NMH came back with the next four racers as Mackenzie Gahan (88.49), Olivia Weinstein (88.50), Arden Bacon (88.60) and Mairead Collins (90.30) finished seventh through 10th respectively. NMH finished with 194 points to edge Deerfield, which was second with 191 points. The NMH B team finished third with 136 points, and Bement School was sixth with 58 points.
On the boys’ side, Deerfield’s Axel Mattsson (77.10), Achille Sarachek (78.31) and Granger Savage (78.61) finished second through fourth respectively, and the Big Green captured the team title with 304 points.
NMH’s Isaac Foster won the race with a combined time of 75.48 seconds as he had the two quickest runs of the day, including a time of 37.58 seconds as NMH finished second overall with 289 points. Eli DiBari was fifth for the Hoggers in 79.46, and Nils Skaane was sixth in 79.67 seconds. Tait Kline was eighth (80.91) for Deerfield, and teammate Alexander Grosse (81.60) was ninth. Eaglebrook’s Porter Savage (81.75) was 10th, helping his team to a third-place finish with 252 points. Eaglebrook’s B team was fifth with 150 points, NMH’s B team was sixth with 139 points, and Deerfield’s B team was seventh with 137 points.
Deerfield scores
The Deerfield boys hockey team went to overtime for the fourth time in five games and came away with a 4-3 victory over Andover, Wednesday in Deerfield.
Deerfield, which ended a two-game losing streak, improved to 11-6-1 on the season and is 2-1-1 in the four recent overtime games.
On the girls’ side, it also took overtime to determine a winner but the Big Green fell to Winchendon, 3-2.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Deerfield and dropped the team to 11-6-2 on the year.
The girls basketball team also went to overtime on Wednesday and suffered a 50-45 loss to Kimball Union Academy.
The Big Green slipped below the .500 mark on the season at 6-7.
The wrestling team suffered a 54-21 loss to Wilbraham & Monson.
