Deion Brewington drilled a shot at the buzzer, lifting Greenfield Middle School to a wild 39-38 victory over Bement School in a boys basketball game Monday at GMS.
Maverick Ward led the GMS offense with 20 points, and Dante Ruggiano joined him in double figures with 11. Brewington finished with 8 points, none bigger than the game-winning hoop.

Over the weekend, Jerry Ven poured in 15 points and Greenfield defeated Turners, 54-35, in a Suburban League grades 5 and 6 basketball game.
Gavin Arsenault and Grayson Thomas scored 8 points apiece for Greenfield.
Josiah Little led Turners with 15 points and Brody Girard added 5.
Turners 5/6 wins
Josiah Little scored 13 points over the weekend as host Turners Falls beat Mohawk, 37-35, in a grades 5 & 6 SL game in Turners Falls.
Danny Widmer finished with 11 points in the win, and Kainen Stevens added 7 points.
FCHA Squirts win
Behind a pair of goals from Shawn Baumann, FCHA Greenfield Savings Bank Squirt Green rolled to a 5-1 victory over Pioneer Valley Purple in a Greater Springfield League contest Sunday at Fitzpatrick Arena in Holyoke.
Baumann scored a pair of first-period goals to stake FCHA to a 2-0 lead. Shawn Beckwith assisted on both tallies.
Chase Zraunig, Caedmon Leblanc and Luca Siano all found the back of the net, while Beckwith notched his third assist of the contest on Leblanc’s strike.
Defensive work by Braedon Talbot, Hayden Ardrey and Carter Schloat aided goalie Jay McGinnis, who recorded 8 saves.
Run with Heart 5K
The Run with Heart 5K will take place Saturday at Pioneer Valley Regional School in Northfield at 10 a.m.
Online registration at www.runreg.com can be done until Wednesday for $25, and registration on race day will increase to $35. Kids are $15.
Music will be provided by Bobby C, and a large raffle will also take place at the event.
All money goes toward funding the Boston Children’s Hospital through Pioneer physical education teacher Sue Scott, who is running the Boston Marathon for the hospital’s “Miles for Miracles” team.
Players wanted for alumni game
The 27th annual David M. Petrin Memorial Alumni Hockey Game will take place Feb. 16 at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.
Organizers are still looking for alumni of the Greenfield High School hockey team to participate in the game, including goalies. The first 30 skaters will make the roster.
The game is in honor of former Green Wave coach David M. Petrin, who passed away on Sept. 1, 1992 at the age of 42. He served as an assistant coach with the team for several seasons, and even spent one year as the head coach.
The alumni game runs from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by Greenfield’s home game against Southwick.
All proceeds from the game will go towards the David M. Petrin Memorial Scholarship, which as given more than $35,000 to graduating seniors at GHS since its inception.
Cost to attend the game is $6 for adults and $5 for students. There will also be a raffle on hand during the event, which includes NHL merchandise.
