Hunter Smith and Trevor Kuchieski each had four points on Sunday to lead Franklin County Hockey Association Dillon Chevrolet/Gilmore & Farrell to a 11-0 win over Springfield in a Greater Springfield League Bantam Green game at Cyr Arena in Springfield.
Kuchieski had two goals and two assists in the win, while Smith had one goal and three helpers. Sam Knight had two goals and one assist, while Matt Lavoine and Jayson Smith each had one goal and two assists. Matt Provencal, Chris Phelps and MJ Paulin each had one goal and one assist, and Brodie Gagne scored once. Billy Woodall, Dylan Archer and Eathon Bryant each had one assist, and Trevor Parkinson made 28 saves for his first shutout of the year.
• On Saturday, FCHA traveled to Orr Arena in Amherst and dropped a 5-0 decision to Amherst.
Parkinson made 31 saves in the loss.
Elks Hoop Shoot
Caleb Thomas won the 12 & 13-year-old boys Western-Central Massachusetts Elks Hoop Shoot Competition at a representative of the Montague Elks Lodge.
Thomas made 18 of 25 shots to win the championship and he moves on to the state competition Feb. 2 at Fowler Middle School in Maynard.
Thomas shot 21 of 25 shots back in December to win the local shoot.
This marks the third time Caleb has qualified for the state shoot. He finished third in the grades 8/9 division, and last year was runner-up in the 10/11 division.
Pioneer 5/6 SL
Brayden Thayer scored 16 points on Sunday to lead Pioneer to a 43-17 win over Frontier in a grades 5/6 Suburban League basketball game.
Kurt Redeker scored 14 points in the win, and Gavin Gammell added 7 points.
• On Saturday, Gammell netted 19 points to lead Pioneer past Mohawk, 71-15.
Redeker notched 16 points in the win, and Judah Glenn had 12 points.
Jonathan Breor scored 7 points in the loss.
Frontier 5/6 girls
Claire Kirkendall finished with 7 points, five rebounds and eight steals to lead Frontier over Wilbraham 2, 32-15, in a grades 5/6 Suburban League girls basketball game Sunday at Goodnow Gymnasium in South Deerfield.
Olivia Machon finished with 6 points, four rebounds and three steals in the win, and Margaret Edwards notched 6 points, 13 rebounds and four steals.
• On Saturday, Kirkendall posted a double-double with 10 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and five steals as Frontier bested Hatfield, 30-18, at Smith Academy in Hatfield.
Edwards had 6 points and 11 rebounds, and Ashley Taylor chipped in 6 points and two steals.
Deerfield results
The Deerfield Academy boys squash team defeated both Salisbury and Choate Rosemary Hall, 7-0, over the weekend at the Choate Tournament.
The girls team was on hand to face Choate but the Big Green fell, 4-3.
The Big Green boys hockey team defeated Trinity-Pawling, 4-3, in overtime to improve to 8-4-0 on the season.
The girls team played to a 1-1 tie with Exeter Saturday in Deerfield to improve to 7-4-2.
The Deerfield girls basketball team fell to Exeter, 52-49, on Saturday, while the boys basketball team fell to Salisbury, 78-65.
The girls and boys swimming & diving teams both lost to Exeter on Saturday. The girls fell, 99-87, and the boys lost, 98-88.
The Big Green wrestling team went 1-2 over the weekend at the Deerfield Quad meet as it beat Hyde (48-24), while losing to Exeter (68-9) and Andover (46-24).
