Deerfield Academy had the top three skiers cross the finish line on Wednesday as it edged Northfield Mount Hermon School for first place in the girls’ division in the opening race of the season for the Mt. Institute Ski League at Berkshire East Ski Resort in Charlemont.

Kikka Giudici had the two fastest times of the day in the slalom and finished with a combined time of 68.73 seconds to win the overall crown and help Deerfield finish with 200 points to win the team title. Valeri Hetherington was second on the day with a score of 72.73, and the third Deerfield skier, Maddie McCarthy was third in 72.77.

Madeline Carey finished seventh overall in 81.55 and was the fourth Deerfield skier across the line.

NMH’s A team finished second on the day with 186 points. Izzy Campbell took fourth overall in 77.35, and Olivia Weinstein was fifth overall in 77.80. Mackenzie Gahan was ninth in 82.51, and Arden Bacon was 10th in 82.88.

On the boys’ side, Deerfield Academy had six racers in the top 10 to win the team title with 306 points. Achille Sarachek took second overall for the Big Green with a score of 68.16 seconds in his two runs, while Garrett Alexander was third overall in 69.65. Tait Kline was fourth in 69.90, Axel Mattsson was sixth overall in 71.51, JP Patton was ninth in 73.95, and Nick Baker was 10th in 74.29.

The NMH A team finished second overall with 293 points. Nils Skaane won the race with a combined time of 67.40 for the Hoggers. Isaac Foster was fifth in 70.00, and Eli DiBari was eighth in 73.64.

Eaglebrook School’s A team was third overall with 193 points, and Deerfield’s B team was fourth with 172 points. The Big Green’s B team saw Alexander Grosse crack the top 10 with a combined time of 73.31 to place seventh.
