On Saturday, Nov. 24, I was reheating Thanksgiving leftovers for my children and grandchild for lunch. Some grease must have slipped down beneath the oven because flames began to shoot up into the oven itself. This was happening in a gas stove, so imagine my raging fear level as I attempted to squelch the fire by tossing flour on the flames.
I cleared the house and called 911 and within five minutes a fire truck was pulling up in front of my home. The firefighters were wonderful.
They closed the kitchen gas line and ran fans to clear the area. They even gave my grandson special stickers which made his day.
Too often public employees are unfairly maligned in the press and their unions come under constant attack. I just want to clearly state my deep gratitude to the Greenfield Fire Department for their professionalism and dedication to duty that secured the safety of my family.
