It is with great enthusiasm that I begin to follow your series on affordable housing in Greenfield. After the homeless encampment on the common was dispersed, I was aggrieved by how easily middle class life in Greenfield returned to business as usual. Meaning, “keep our homeless out of sight.”
No one I asked seemed to know where the 20 people had gone. No one seemed to care very much, either.
I find it ironic that the series began Monday; right after the unveiling of the yearly, ever-provocative Christian creche on town property, sponsored by the “Keep Christ in Christmas” folk. Greenfield makes it very clear that only some homeless are welcome on the common!
