NORTHFIELD — All across town, crafted blue and white snowflakes directed people to holiday concerts, Christmas tree cutting, cider, cookies and caroling this past weekend.
Saturday was the 13th annual Special Day in Northfield, an old-fashioned holiday celebration thrown by the town’s merchants and organizations.
In addition to its traditional free horse-drawn hay rides from Highland Barbecue, this Special Day included a performance of “A Christmas Carol” by Silverthorne Theater Company at Centennial House Bed and Breakfast, where Santa Claus also read stories before the fireplace; a holiday sale at Northfield Mountain Antiques; crafts from the Northfield Junior Firefighters Program; a performance by the Redemption Christian Academy Choir and gingerbread people decorating at Mim’s Market.
At the end of the day, groups settled down at Cameron’s Winery for some wine, warmth and music sung and strummed by local Jim McRae. Those who stayed outside gathered at the Northfield Golf Club for some caroling around a bonfire.
