Thanksgiving turkeys at meat raffle

SHELBURNE FALLS — The Shelburne Falls Fraternal Order of Eagles is hosting its annual “Thanksgiving Meat Raffle” this Friday, Nov. 16, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Eagles Club at 52 State St. Come down for a drink and the raffle, which includes turkey, ham, steaks and more.

Last year, says bartender Tena Heath, raffle-players took home about five turkeys, seven hams, four packages of steaks and two lobsters. Raffle chances are priced between $2 to $5 for each, depending on what kind of meat is being raffled. Players must be in attendance to win. The raffle is done with two decks of cards — one for the raffle entrants and one deck for the dealer. Each raffle player draws a playing card, and the person who draws the same card as the dealer wins. Heath says the club has hosted this meat raffle for at least 10 years.

Proceeds benefit the Eagles’ annual scholarship fund.
