HUNTINGTON — A 14-year-old boy has died after an all-terrain vehicle he was driving crashed Sunday at about 1:30 p.m. on Sampson Road in Huntington, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.

The Gateway Regional School District superintendent’s office confirmed that the boy was a student at Gateway Regional Middle School. The DA’s office said it will not release the boy’s name since he is a minor.

Another 14-year-old boy, a passenger on the ATV, suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, the DA’s office said.

School officials said the injured boy was treated and released from the hospital.

The DA’s office said the boys were not wearing helmets.

Just off Route 66 near the Westhampton line, Sampson Road runs close to Huntington State Forest.
