GREENFIELD — A “Community Shred Event” will be held today from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Guiding Star Grange, 401 Chapman St.
This two hour event will be open to all community members of Franklin County and the town of Athol. This is for residential shredding not open to businesses.
The Greenfield S.A.LT. (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) Council/TRIAD, in partnership with the, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, local S.A.L.T. Council volunteers and Valley Green Shredding are sponsoring this event.
Consumer fraud and identity theft are on the rise. Older adults are often targeted victims of identity theft due to factors such as higher savings, more assets, overall better credit scores, social isolation, and higher rates of visits to medical facilities. The Greenfield S.A.L.T. Council is raising awareness and promoting prevention. The Community Shred Event will provide the community with a responsible way to dispose of sensitive documents.
TRIAD is a community policing initiative connecting seniors, law enforcement and services providers to increase safety through education and crime prevention. Its goals are to reduce criminal activity which targets older adults, to alleviate older adults’ fear of victimization, to build confidence and improve their quality of life, and to enhance delivery of law enforcement services to older adults.
Documents such as old bills, credit card information, canceled checks or any materials that may have identifying information can be shredded. All documents will be shredded on sight. Valley Green Shredding is a certified veteran-owned, information destruction services company serving the needs of the Pioneer Valley and beyond.
