The Shelburne Arts Co-opinvites inquiries from local artists who are interested in submitting work for jury as potential working members. All art and craft media are considered.

“Capturing Light & Life,” an exhibit opening Sept. 30, is seeking photograph submissions.

Each contributor may submit up to three photographs, framed with hanging wire on the back. There is a $10 entry fee.

Submissions will be collected on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the 1739 Bernardston Unitarian Meetinghouse, 49 Church St. in Bernardston. The exhibit will be held at the meetinghouse from Sept. 30 to Nov. 25. Contributors can also drop off their work by appointment by calling 413-330-0807.

Organizers of the Celebrate Fiber Arts Festival, to be held Oct. 19 through 21 in Monson, are seeking artist submissions.

To reach fiber artists, the organization is offering prizes in three major categories. There will be a $300 first prize, $200 second prize and $100 third prize in the categories of “Most Artistically Creative,” “Most Technically Amazing” and “Most Inspiring.” There will also be a $500 Best in Show prize, a $150 Committee Choice prize and a $50 People’s Choice prize, as well as many honorable mention ribbons. Judges will be Holly Murray and Jessica Poser of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Springfield College, and quilter Penny Lewis, from Palmer.

Work in every fiber medium is accepted, including but not limited to basketry, beading, braided rugs, crochet, cross-stitch, embroidery, felted art, handcrafted fiber dolls and animals, knitting, macrame, multi-fiber, needlepoint, punch needle, rug hooking, quilts and weaving.

Organizers of Scarecrow in the Park, the fall festival held every October in Bernardston’s Cushman Park, are seeking creative people to participate in this year’s scarecrow contest.

The two-day event will be held Oct. 20 and 21, and scarecrows must be in place by noon on Oct. 19th, as judging will take place soon after. The five scarecrow categories are: scariest, funniest, prettiest, most interesting use of materials, and the rotating category, which is art this year. All categories come with a $100 prize for the winner. In addition, Bear Country Radio will award a $100 Big Y gift card to the maker of the best “Bearcrow.”

One $10 registration fee enters each scarecrow display in all six categories. Anyone of any age is welcome to participate. Money raised during Scarecrow in the Park will benefit the Bernardston Kiwanis Club’s scholarship fund.

Booths are also still available for artists, craftspeople and specialty food vendors. The booth fee for the two-day weekend is $45 per 10-by-10-foot space and $70 for a 10-by-20-foot space. It is expected that artists will commit to the whole weekend, however, a limited number of single-day applications will be accepted at the full weekend price.

Actors/Actresses

Children ages 5 and older, along with their parents or guardians, are invited to participate in the 34th annual “Welcome Yule: A Midwinter Celebration” that will be performed at the Shea Theater in Turners Falls on Dec. 7, 8 and 9.

“Welcome Yule: A Midwinter Celebration” is a family show; cast members are families in reality as well as on stage. The cast includes a third generation of performers.

Rehearsals will be held on Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 4 p.m. starting Sept. 30 at a home in Greenfield; at the Episcopal Church of Saints James and Andrew from Oct. 14 through Nov. 11; and at the Shea Theater from Nov. 18 to Dec. 2.

Schola Nova, a group performing sacred choral music, is holding open auditions on Friday, Sept. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. during the group’s weekly rehearsal. Auditions will be held at LarGo Voce Music Studio, 35 Pleasant St., Room 8, in Easthampton.

The Fiddle Orchestra of Western Massachusetts is holding rehearsals for its fall season on Sept. 20, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., at the Northampton Senior Center, 67 Conz St. in Northampton.

David Kaynor and Annika Amstutz direct the group. Musicians of all abilities, not just fiddlers, are invited to try a rehearsal at no charge.

Now at the start of its sixth season, the Franklin County Community Chorus is welcoming new members.

The chorus, under the direction of Paul J. Calcari, sings a wide variety of music including classical, folk, jazz, patriotic and light rock. Rehearsals are held every Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the Guiding Star Grange, 401 Chapman St. in Greenfield.

Scripts

The Actors Theatre Playhouse of West Chesterfield, N.H., and Brattleboro, Vt., is accepting 10-minute play submissions for its Ten Minute Play Festival in June of 2019.

Ten-minute plays should include only one scene, have minimal scenic requirements, not exceed 10 to 12 pages in length and have two to six characters. Each contributor may submit up to two plays. Plays that have been produced previously are welcome, provided there are no encumbrances on them.

Scripts will be accepted through email at tenplays19@gmail.com until Sept. 30. Eight to 10 winners and alternates will be announced to all participants by early December.

No monetary prizes are awarded. Winners receive production of their play in the festival and multiple complimentary tickets.

Proposals

Eggtooth Productions is seeking proposals from artists for its 2019 Radical Interconnectedness Festival.

The production company invites stories that engage issues of race, age, gender, religion, economic class and other aspects of cultural identity that have been suppressed. A wide range of artistic expression will be considered such as music, dance, theatrical, visual, immersive and installation.

Commission is $500. Eggtooth will supply the venue, audience and promotions.
