NORTHFIELD — Consultants hired to examine the long-term viability of the Pioneer Valley Regional School District administrative setup will discuss their findings so far at the HEART Committee’s meeting on Wednesday.

The consultants, Mark Abrahams and Stephen Hemman, outlined the basics of their work at the Pioneer Valley Regional School Committee meeting Thursday night. The study compares several factors related to budgeting and enrollment in the Pioneer district, Gill-Montague district and Franklin County Technical School.

They are exploring whether Pioneer can save money sharing administrative work with a neighboring district.

“Everything we do is open,” Hemman said. “We want to involve people.”

The study will consider hypothetical scenarios in which some services are shared between the different districts, as well as a “do nothing” scenario to illustrate how the district will fare if its structure does not change at all in the next four years.

They will also investigate options of closing Warwick Community School or Leyden’s Pearl Rhodes Elementary School or both.

“We realize it’s a sensitive subject, but it really needs to be looked at,” Hemman said.

The HEART Committee is a district support group. Its name stands for Honest Education and Retaining Trust.
