Try a new voting system

Without wanting to cast any aspersions on the winner of the 1st Franklin seat in the state House of Representatives, it seems to me that the results of the primary race highlight why we should consider a change in the way we vote.

The plain fact is that nearly 60 percent of the voters chose someone other than the winner in the seven-way race. We can ensure that the elected have at least a majority support without any change to our current ballots or counting procedures by allowing voters to vote for any number of candidates on a single ballot (they will still only get one ballot per election).

Voters will select every candidate they could support. Checking every candidate, while not disallowed, would be equivalent to a blank ballot. It’s called approval voting, if you want to read more about it.
