Lennox Avenue abandonment process underway

GREENFIELD — Lennox Avenue, the former entry way and address to the old Greenfield High School, is on its way to being given up by the city. Greenfield is in the process of abandonment of the roadway, and instead giving it up to the direct neighbors. This will mean the Department of Public Works will not have to maintain it anymore, if the process goes though.

The Greenfield Planning Board issued its support for abandonment of Lennox Avenue at its regular meeting Thursday. It’s formerly an approval of non requirement, but the board decided to give its endorsement anyway.

Hotel discussion postponed

GREENFILED — The meeting to discuss the building of a four-story hotel at the site of the old Rodeway Inn at 125 Mohawk Trail was postponed to October. The public hearing was slated for Thursday’s Planning Board meeting, but a traffic study was not yet finished so the board decided to not hold a hearing until it’s complete, which may be next month.

The project, which was first discussed by the board about a month ago, is anticipated to be a hotel and four retail spaces, with an additional, standalone retail space. The existing building will likely be demolished.

The developer, Parmar Properties North of Hadley, is asking for a special permit to increase the maximum height from 40 to 48 feet. The permit also asks for parking within the required the front yard setback.
