I would like to express my feelings about some issues and maybe they’ll ruffle some feathers.

The homeless on the Common were a reflection of how they are treated by society. Their presence was almost like the plague to a lot of people, though many of us are all one step from the same situation.

If you have a heart you’d be almost in tears, as I have, watching our fellow citizens have everything taken away from them by floods and fires. How many of them will be homeless?

The churches in the area bring in people who don’t even live here, and they get set up in apartments or motels. The homeless in Greenfield get a free meal, but these churches won’t give them shelter.

If you drove by the Common, what difference does it make to see Americans in this situation if it offends you? Look the other way and figure yourself lucky not to be in their shoes.

Nowadays, everything offends someone, but if there’s a photo “op,” then it’s kosher.

I’ve been dealing with cancer and now on top of all my bills, I just had to buy a prescription for a CAT scan I’ll be taking. The hospitals complain about cost, but they don’t give free prescriptions.

The only pills I was given were opioids, which I wouldn’t take because I pulled up my boot straps and took on the pain. I was sent a questionnaire on how my treatment was for my cancer and over the first question I wrote in “I’m more worried about my bill than the cancer.”

Make sure you get an itemized bill and see the money the hospital takes in.

I would like to thank Baystate nurses and doctors because I know today I wouldn’t be writing this letter if not for them.
