WENDELL — Funk, folk, rock, reggae and plenty more musical genres will be heard in the woods of Wendell this weekend.

The first-ever Virgo Vibe festival and concert will be held at the Deja Brew Cafe & Pub on Lockes Village Road on Saturday from 1 p.m. and ending around 1 a.m.

Featuring eleven musical acts, a midnight DJ dance party, food trucks, artisans and vendors, Virgo Vibe has a local flair and is focused on promoting western Massachusetts artists of all kinds, said organizer Jason Moses.

“Vendors often want to bring in bigger names, and it makes it hard. It kind of squeezes the local musicians to the margins. So, why not have a local venue where we can create something of our own?” said Moses, who plays the keyboard, sings and provides percussion for Shokazoba, one of the closing acts.

Bands will play half-hour to hour-long sets, starting with The Wendell Swamp Sisters at 1 p.m. and followed by, in order, Rufus Haikufus & The Magic Carpet Band; Josh LeVangie and The Pistoleros; The Equalites; Ch’Chunk; The Quaboag Vibe; Mamma’s Marmalade; Deep C Divers; Snowhaus; Outer Stylie and Shokazoba.

The night will be capped off with an “international funk and tropical dance” party led by DJ Andular and Studebaker Hawk.

The event will include local food and beer and art that features “a coloring space,” Moses said. And the festival is open for all-ages.

Moses said he is excited about how “organically” the concert came together, with many musicians willing to participate. He is also excited about the venue, which is a special place for many local artists.

“Shokazoba is our band and we’ve been around for 13 years, and one of our favorite places to play is Deja Brew — just great vibes and the town is such a special place,” Moses said.

“Deja Brew, from the micro to the macro, is great. Everybody who hangs out there treats you like family, and every show we’ve had there has been great,” he added. “When you have that kind of place it builds the culture quick, right from the get-go.”

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door or in advance from participating musicians and at the Wendell Country Store; the Leverett Village Coop; The Enthusiast in Greenfield; Turn It Up in Montague and Northampton; Element Brewing Company in Millers Falls; Luthier’s Co-op & Head Eaze in Easthampton; Mystery Train Records and Cushman Market in Amherst and Local Burgy in Haydenville.

Those who purchase tickets in advance will receive $5 back at the entrance. Children under 12 are free.
