Growing up in Greenfield my mother, a single mom, depended on social services that were available. These included: housing, food, clothing and medical care for her three young children. At the time, I carried a tremendous amount of shame that we were a family who relied on these services. A trip to the grocery was a painful experience, as I was convinced everyone knew, everyone saw our poverty when we handed over our state issued money.
Now, some years later, I have come to applaud my mother’s courage in seeking help — and, I honor our economic differences.
And this is why I am supporting Chelsea Kline for state Senate. Chelsea Kline believes in the power of community; she believes preserving access to services that help support people in need. When I imagine a government that represents the people who elect them, I see Chelsea Kline.
