ASHFIELD — Filmmakers from Ashfield, Buckland or Shelburne have until Monday, Aug. 27, to submit their five-minute short films and compete for glory at this year’s Ashfield Film Festival, which will be held Sept. 13 through 15 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall.
The grand prize is $400 for the film judged “best” by the film festival panel, which includes past winners and professional filmmakers. Videos may also be submitted with an entry form by mail to: Ashfield FilmFest, P.O. Box 337, Ashfield MA 01330.

BUCKLAND — Town Moderator Phoebe Walker will host a “Meet the Candidates” night, in which residents can hear from and meet the three candidates vying for an open Selectboard seat in the Sept. 11 special town election.
The event will be held Monday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. upstairs in Town Hall. Helen O’ Gorman, Barry Del Castilho and Tuyet Linh Lafleur are competing for the one-year unexpired term of Kevin Fox, who stepped down from the board after serving for at least 20 years.
ASHFIELD — Appalachian Still will bring old-time mountain music and bluegrass to the Ashfield Community Hall on Sunday.
Northampton’s F. Alex Johnson of the band Colorway (and former guitarist for the band the Drunk Stuntmen) will be the opening act.
Tickets are $12 at the door, and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Stand up to Cancer, which raises money for cancer research. Community Hall is at 521 Main St.
