NORTHFIELD — The newly formed Town Governance Study Committee wants to take input from town government departments and interested residents.

The Town Governance Study Committee was formed in July to review the 2013 report and recommendations of the previous Town Governance Study Committee, and to give new recommendations on how Northfield’s government might be improved.

The committee must complete its report in time for the 2019 Town Meeting in May.

In order to determine what the scope of its work will be, the committee will interview town officials over the coming months. Committee member Bernie Porada said that these interviews will likely focus on how effective the changes made per the recommendations of the previous Town Governance Study Committee have been. The people to be interviewed will likely include heads of departments and committees, selectboard members and Interim Town Administrator Bernie Kubiak.

Community forums will also likely be part of the committee’s work in the coming months.

“There are a lot of people to talk to and get input from and not a lot of time to do it,” said committee member Brian Brault.

Committee membership

The Town Governance Study Committee has also finalized its membership. Initially the committee had five members, with plans to add two more.

At the committee’s Aug. 6 meeting, a vote was taken to appoint Brian Brault and Jeremy Underwood as the final two members. Brault has been officially sworn in, but Underwood had not been as of Monday.
