GILL — The Gill-Montague School district is accepting letters of interest from Gill residents who want to join the School Committee, following Shawn Hubert’s resignation in July.
Hubert, in his note of resignation for personal reasons, wrote the committee, “I could have never seen my life situation change as drastically as it has when I committed to the position, and the one thing I know is that truly doing that job properly is much more than a meeting every couple weeks. It requires a true commitment of time, energy and focus, and I feel I would be doing a disservice to the committee and the school itself for me to stay.”
The vacancy will be filled until the next school committee election in May 2019, when the Gill seat will be open to any candidate willing to fill the remainder of the term ending May 2020.
Hubert held one of the three Gill seats on the nine-member school committee, with the remainder held by Montague residents.
Letters of interest may be sent to Superintendent Michael Sullivan by 4 p.m. Sept. 18. The school committee will choose the next member Sept. 25.
