We will all benefit from an improved library in Greenfield.
I can never say enough about the wonderful service that the Greenfield Public Library staff gives to everyone who walks through their doors. They serve people from Greenfield as well as surrounding towns. If I am not able to find the information I need, the staff will find it for me. They use their limited space for daytime and nighttime programs that appeal to so many interests.
Many are happy with the service, but I know that the larger Greenfield community would benefit from a newer facility. For decades there have been plans prepared for a new building. Our town received one of those generous state grants quite a few years ago, and the town turned it down! We did not take advantage of those funds. It was heartbreaking.
I was privileged to be the director of the Greenfield Community College Library for many years. The newer library space at GCC has improved capacity and services there. Yes, times have changed and our community’s needs have outgrown the limitations of the unstable and leaky house that is now the public library. Greenfield residents will benefit from the improvement provided by a library building designed for library purposes. We need “innovative” and “functional,” and not “quaint.” Clear the way for this to happen. Support our future. Now is the time to take advantage of this fine grant.
