ORANGE — Following a year off, Dinner by the River is coming back.

The family-friendly social event will be on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 5 p.m. at Riverfront Park, East River Street. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.

“This is a fundraising event for the parks of Orange and an event to enjoy beautiful Riverfront Park,” said Denise Andrews, board member of the Riverfront Park Committee, in a statement.

The nonprofit Orange Revitalization Partnership Friends of the Parks is hosting this year’s dinner, after the event was canceled last year due to the park’s poor appearance and need for maintenance.

This year, the park is back in order, and the production team for “Castle Rock,” the recently released Hulu show filmed in Orange, donated $10,000 to the town for beautification of Riverfront Park and Memorial Park.

According to Selectboard Clerk James Cornwell, the “Castle Rock” money is not enough to completely revitalize the two parks, but goes a long way in helping to pay for maintenance, such as weed-removal.

The volunteer-driven Orange Revitalization Partnership has also been working to improve the appearance of downtown areas, including the parks.

On the menu this year is vegetarian lasagna or balsamic chicken, green beans amandine, scalloped potatoes, bread with dipping sauce, side salad and dessert prepared by Affordable Caterers of Orange. Water and iced tea are available.

The Relics will provide a mixture of oldies, rock and country music.

Also, a 50/50 raffle and raffles for gift baskets from local businesses will be held.

Tickets are available for $20 at Trail Head Outfitters and General Store at 1 South Main St., Stan’s Liquor Mart at 1586 South Main St. in Athol or by calling Pat Andrews at 978-544-8555.

The event will be held, rain or shine, beneath tents at Riverfront Park.
