GILL — Regulations for recreational marijuana establishments and sales were approved unanimously by the Board of Health on Wednesday.

Member of the Board of Health and Chairman of the Gill Selectboard, Randy Crochier, said the bylaws are similar to the tobacco regulations with the exception of edible marijuana products.

“Anyone selling in town should be undergo a health inspection, looking through for sanitation,” Crochier said. “The current state regulations doesn’t require the marijuana establishments to be subject to food laws.”

He said he believes any products that are made for consumption, such baked goods or candy, should be regulated to comply with sanitary requirements of good practices for food.

Other requirements in the regulations include any establishment must be at least 500 feet from a public or private school where children attend pre-school, kindergarten or up through grade 12.

Potential establishments, whether selling, cultivating, delivering or otherwise distributing marijuana, must obtain an operating permit issued by the board of health. These permits will need to be renewed annually.

Members of the board were in agreement and unanimously approved the regulations.
