GREENFIELD — The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists has accredited Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s Main Laboratory based on results of a recent site inspection.
Dr. Mary M. Zakhary, the lab’s medical director, was advised of this national recognition. “The inspection process is rigorous, and I am proud of our team of laboratory professionals,” she said. “This accreditation is a testament to their dedication to patients, ensuring that they receive the best care possible.”
The federal government recognizes the College of American Pathologists Laboratory Accreditation Program as equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.
During the accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. Inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record and overall management.
