GREENFIELD — If you want to know how to get your energy bill a bit lower this summer, then you will want to participate in an upcoming tour of the Green River Commons condominiums.
Greening Greenfield, a volunteer group that aims to improve the environment, will be hosting a guided tour of a zero-energy home at the new Green River Commons on Deerfield Street.
The tour, which happens Monday at 4:30 p.m., is the second in a series of tours of zero-energy homes in the city and showcases the energy-efficient homes and options.
“There is much to be learned from these new condos that can be applied to existing homes,” Nancy Hazard of Greening Greenfield said. “There will be plenty of people on-hand that can answer both technical and financial questions about purchasing one of these new Green River Commons condominiums or about achieving zero net energy for your home.”
The tour will highlight the homes, which have been designed for energy efficiency and modest incomes.
The homes are modest in size, ranging from 560-square feet for one-bedroom homes and 780-square feet for two-bedroom homes, but have open living areas, vaulted ceilings and sliding glass doors that open to a patio.
The homes are all equipped with Energy Star refrigerators, dishwashers and ranges.
In addition to showcasing the homes, those on the tour will be able to talk with representatives of Freedom Credit Union, which can provide financing for the homes.
Information on solar energy options will also be at the tour, including a chance to talk about financing solar options for your home with members from the UMASSFive College Credit Union and PV Squared Solar.
To book a spot in the tour, you can call Hazard at 413-774-5667. Space is limited.
