Why would I spend my precious free time volunteering on Francia Wisnewski’s campaign for Representative for the 1st Franklin District, when I don’t live in that district and won’t have the privilege to vote for her?
Not because I know her to be an outstanding, smart, and caring individual — though she is that and more. It’s because I believe in her values and integrity, and I know that she will hold true to those values as a legislator and speak truth to power when necessary for the sake of her constituents. It’s also because I spend much time in the communities of the First Franklin, so it benefits me if they prosper; moreover, the issues that come across a representative’s desk affect all of us in western Massachusetts, in her district and beyond.
Just one example: I travel to South Deerfield or Whately daily to catch PVTA Bus 46, which conveniently transports me for free to my job at UMass, yet is on the elimination list if the state budget is not increased for transit authorities. Francia is the only candidate I’ve heard specifically mention that one of her priorities is to strengthen and expand bus service in our region.
She also understands that public transportation benefits our environment, which is a big concern of mine. I know Francia to be incredibly hard-working, thorough in her research, open to listening to all points of view, and a warm friendly person who will work well with legislators and government agencies in Boston, with the goal of improving the lives of all of us in the Pioneer Valley.
So if YOU are lucky enough to live in 1st Franklin District, vote for Francia Wisnewski on Sept. 4. You’ll be glad you did.
